Jon H__ is getting married and I can’t wait to visit him and my old haunts.
It will be the first time I will be on vacation in the fall in New England. When I lived there, I was working like a dog here. I learned a lot about not wanting to work in sales, how to negotiate, how I hate working more than 40 to 46 hours a day, and how the best laid plans… well, you know the rest. This time I hope to enjoy the foliage. It was a blur of caffeinated, high-pressure, Always-Be-Closing color last time.
I am going to visit Northampton. It is a wonderful town if you are educated, have money, liberal, and without children. When we lived near there, it was heaven. It is surrounded by a moat of colleges. Five – Smith, Amherst, Hampshire, Umass at Amherst (I took a class there), and Mt. Holyoke. That’s from memory y’all!! What is the great thing about being surrounded by wonderful colleges? Raven used books!! Like Pavlov’s dogs, I respond by opening my wallet everytime I see their icon: a black woodcut of a raven on a white background. I even have a shirt by them. I hope I can find some books on 16th century natural history. Ever since reading about The Museum of Jurassic Technology, I have been fascinated by the period.
Also, my wife’s and my first meal in Mass was at The Teapot. It was so good, the people were so nice, we decided to come every week. I gained 30 pounds. I have a picture of me holding my 6 week old daughter at our last meal in Mass, which of course was at The Teapot. The woman at the check out took LSM all over the restaurant while we ate, LSM goo’d, and many smiled. Great place. If they don’t remember us, I won’t be hurt, but I have a good feeling they will. They seem like genuinely nice people.
