The idealist in me loves this type of stuff, but the realist in me knows that this technology assumes a great deal of tech-savvy individuals involved. Iwouldn’t be able to get my neighbors as invovled as needed to make this useful. I have put together YahooGroups for a non-profit board and a political committee. Because the people invovled couldn’t understand the value of it – they were of a generation that didn’t grow up with computers – both groups died on the vine. If you have a tech-savvy neighborhood, I highly suggest this: presnick: New I-Neighbors service from MIT
“Keith Hampton at MIT is making publicly available his I-Neighbors service. It lets you find, or create, an online presence for your block or neighborhood. Unlike previous incarnations in the commercial realm, which were hot a few years back, this one seems to focus on person to person connections at a much finer granularity.”
