Now that we all are about to be forced to change to digital television and digital connections, what’s going to happen to those analog airwaves? They don’t just disappear. In my opinion, a battle will be waged over whether to license them or not. Those who want them licensed will of course expect an exorbitant licensing fee, which means unless you already have money, you can’t come up with an innovative use for them.
Now let’s think about something that’s not licensed. Hmmm, let me think while I’m sitting in my dining room writing this. OH! Wi-Fi! No it’s not the name of my cat, it’s what allows me to drink coffee at Starbucks while browsing the net; it lets me play Mario Slugger and feel like I’m swinging a bat with my Wii-Remote; it lets me write blog posts while I’m in the bath…um, I mean dining room. You get the idea. So, what if the analog airwaves were unlicensed. Well, for one the Internet could be streamed to rural areas easier -I’ve got a good idea to steal about that, but I’ll write about that later. The great thing is that some genius will come up with a much more innovative use for it. One that will change our lives in ways we can’t imagine right now because, well, that’s how innovation works.
So I’m asking you to NOT sign the petition like it says on the logo, but to click on it, review the materials, and decide for yourself how valuable this would be for our country’s competitiveness. We NEED innovation right now. Have you noticed our fiscal and monetary environment lately?
