BufWiki is About Stories Too (Social Capital for You Brainiacs)

Where WILL this go?

Where WILL this go?

The metaphor for BufWiki is a snowball pushed from a mountain. See I made a teeny tiny snowball at the top, pushed, and clasped my hands over my mouth as I watched what happened. Here are some stories from watching the chaos.

  • In Toronto, they have a cool wiki about their city and the guy who pushed that snowball helped out by planting seeds all over. It was much appreciated.
  • In Rochester, someone who’s been helping out with RocWiki for a while, has been putting in major time to help his neighbors – that means YOU Buffalonians. He’s making this wiki look legit – much appreciated. I hope no one figures out who the nut job was that thought of this or all his hard work is ruined.
  • The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society sent me a nice email: “I posted it to my favorite lists on my lunch hour, total of 700 or so subscribers.  Hope you see a spike in activity.” Wow! Now that’s social capital at work.
  • One of the folks who pushed that RocWiki snowball, added Might Taco and faster than you can say, “Where did you hear about us?” there’s a comment from someone in Atlanta.

So what did I learn today, that virtual connections are real. I now think that Ryan Tucker is a genius because not only did he start RocWiki, but he also added the most obvious page to our wiki. I want the Brad to be healthy and yet still have the same amount of free time as when he’s sick – cuz, two cities would benefit from his “free time.” BTW, there’s still plenty of room in the pool if you want to join. Yeah, you know  you wanna. :-)
