For BradM: Add a Wiki Page for Someone Suffering from Stage IV Melanoma

“On Nov 10th 2009 I received news that my melanoma cancer had reappeared in my spine and ribs. As of October 2009 I entered Stage IV, where the median survival time is 9 months and the 5-year rate is 3%. I will be mostly away from Buffalo Wiki while I am getting my affairs in order and working on other priorities.”

This was the message I found on BufWiki, a wiki inspired by RocWiki to create a “people’s guide” for an area, by its #1 editor, creator, and manager of the site. I’ve been very blessed getting to know Brad Mandell through working on BufWiki. Although I had the initial idea and setup some structure, he has taken this on as his personal project, which is amazing because not only is he struggling with life threatening health problems, but also he lives 1 1/2 hours away from his subject.

So, I want to give back to Brad by helping him know that BufWiki will continue. I can’t do this without you. Please take the time to do the following:

  1. Find out something about Buffalo, N.Y.. It can be a business, a piece of history, a nonprofit organization, or anything.
  2. Search BufWiki and see if that bit of information is on the site.
    1. If it isn’t there, add whatever you have.
    2. If it is there, check to see if it’s written well or if you could expand it.
  3. Put the phrase “For BradM : – )” at the bottom of the wiki page.
  4. Finally, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, post a tweet with: “@mandellbrad I Added [inset what you added here] to the BufWiki 4Brad“. If you don’t use twitter, let me know via email or this site, and I’ll post it in your name. This will send a notification to either his phone, email, or both that you’ve helped.

His last tweet on his condition was: “Starting week 3 of the chemo today, good report from oncologist on bloodwork, etc. Will have a week off 24th-30th.” I want to overwhelm his inbox or phone with kindness from strangers all over the world to show him that something he has worked so hard on will not fade away. It would be great to have this rolling for while he recovers from chemo.

Please help BradM.
